Type of a scam Family/Friend Emergency

Had someone call crying hysterically (that we thought was a relative) , saying that they had been arrested for a DUI, bail was set for $100,000 and $10,000 needed to be paid within 3 hours or they were going to prison. Contacted the DA (John Williams) International Public Defender’s Office, per the instructions given to us by the caller. Mr. Williams then told us that a $10,000 cash only payment needed to be made within 3 hours, so our relative could be released from jail. The cash needed to be paid in person at one of their offices. After this call with Mr. Williams we contacted the court and a bail bondsmen and discovered there was no such case and in fact the relative was perfectly fine and conducting their daily activities as usual.
