Type of a scam Tech Support

Yesterday (7/14) I was contacted by a person who first stated his name was Alex. He said my computer was at risk and that he needed to do something with Microsoft. I wasn’t able to sit down and open my computer at that point so I asked him to call back today. He did, repeating his warning about Microsoft and error messages: without telling me his purpose or asking my permission, he told me to enter data to verify the errors. I did and he took over the screen with Supremo to point out various problems. He then started a list on NotePad with dollar amounts; I told him I would take my computer to Best Buy and the Geek Squad. He rapidly went on to the new Edge and supposedly showed me that people are being scammed by Best Buy (the YouTube video was from 2009 and the articles from 2019). He then stated that his company was registered with ScamPulse.com and showed me GlassDoor reviews. By this time I was asking questions I should have asked earlier: who is your CEO (Steve Burten: he was very specific about the spelling)? What is your name (he now stated "Mike Butler")? What is your company (High Technologies Solutions, VERY similar to Hi-Tech Solutions, which appears to be a legitimate business)? He also stated that if I allowed him to administer to my computer, it would last five more years (no need to buy a new computer, if a seven-year old one is in good shape).

Alex, or Mike, used four different numbers (an Anonymous one, 443-934-4987, 443-398-3714, and 443-632-7895) and gave me a call-back number for the event I would ask for the company’s services after doing research (516-366-1494).

The company in question is not registered with the BBB. Best Buy and the Geek Squad have a serious problem out there. I did not give any credit card information, but believe me, Alex was trolling through my pages, searching for data. I was stupid–hopefully this will help others that want their computer to be in good working order.
