Type of a scam Employment

I was job hunting back in late January and early February and I was looking on an employment website called Indeed.com. I applied for a receptionist position at law office in my area. I received a response a few days later telling me that the positioned been filled and that they appreciated me applying but my resume and work history has been referred to an associate of theirs who was in need of my service. he goes y the name Simon Gauthier. He told me that I have a job with him being his assistant and that he was excited to work with me and he will let me know what my assignments will be. he told me that we would meet but we never discussed the details of it. after talking bout this with my husband we both had a bad feeling about it and decided to cut off communication with this man and blocked from receiving notifications from his emails. time goes by without anything and I checked my mail yesterday (March 10,2020) and this is where things get more interesting. I received a letter from Fed Ex and I wasn’t sure about it since I really wasn’t expecting anything but I opened it anyway in case out was from a friend who was sending a late wedding gift. I opened it and saw a check for $2,495.00. I looked the check over and it looks legitimate (im no expert) but it was a business I’ve never heard of. so I did some research online and looked over the envelope to see where it was from or it anything on the envelope was familiar to me. on the check it was from a "business" in Santa Clarita California. I looked for them on the internet and it turns out that the website seemed pretty fake as well. the "business" is called Valencia Labels. if you look on the website you can purchase anything and they aren’t even selling anything. the website has a phone number listed but I wasn’t sure what to say when someone picked up so I hung up. also on the website and check they have 2 different cities listed on each one. any who I looked over the fed ex envelope and I saw a name and phone number. the name on the envelope was Jamie Scott and the phone number leads to a medical clinic in North Carolina. I called and the young lady proceeded to tell me that I was about the fifth person who has called that day and that its a scam of some sort. I went back to my emails and I saw that Simon Gauthier has been emailing me and told me the other day about him sending a check and asking me to deposit in into my account and that he wants me to look for flights and hotels in Denver Colorado and that he wants to meet face to face. Im honestly not sure if my life is in inement danger but I would like something done about the as soon as possible. I don’t want his man contacting me and I don’t want to respond to him either. please help! I have the check and email correspondence between me and him that i can forward to you as soon as we can get an investigation going. thank you!
