I received a call and it stated hello gram and not by grandma. The caller stated that he was in a car accident and the car that he hit was a pregnant lady and his voice was slow because of the accident. The grandson said please don’t call anyone. I questioned him too much and they gave me a case number 220584-ww. The ww is my grandson’s initial of his last name. After he gave me the case number I hung up. A man proceeded to call me back by the name of John Matthews and he sounded to be pretty intelligent. I hung up and called my children. I am a senior"

Got a phone call from Sgt. Frazier and was told i was not going to be able to speak to my grand daughter but I needed to send 4500 to make her bail with the bail bonds man in Florida. I was told that she was under a gag order by the court to not be able to speak to anyone. So i went to my bank and took out 4500 and sent a money order via UPS to my granddaughter at 1113 NE. 89th in Miami, Flordia.

Only after thinking to try and call my granddaughter, she actually picked up and told me that she was not going to court and had no idea what I was talking about.

On 2/28/19 at 10:35 AM, I received a call from a young voiced male who claimed to be my grandson. He addressed me as grandma. That alone made me suspicious as I do not have any grandchildren (that I know about), My daughter-in-law has a son from her first marriage, whom I think highly of. This person first asked that his experience not be told to his parent. He said that he went to Wyoming to visit a friend dying from cancer and had dinner and a couple of drinks. He said he was in an auto accident and fractured his nose and the police were involved. I did tell him, "and I suppose you need some money?" He hemmed and hawed and I told him that I don’t involve myself in family affairs and that he should contact his mother. I also told him that I don’t even know if he is the person that he claims to be and that this might be a scam that’s circulating. My daughter-in-law and my son were already visiting her son and family in another state. I called my son immediately after I had hung up the phone, and told my him about it. He said that his wife’s aging step-father had also been receiving similar calls.

Received a phone call and they said "Hi Grandma, I broke my nose.." but first he went into this long story about saying he got invited to a wedding in the Dominican Republic and he went right down there and the people were friendly and so nice but he was in a car wreck just this morning and broke his nose and needed 3 stitches in his lip. I laughed and said, "you sound kind of different" He said it is not funny. I asked him to send a picture and he again said it is not funny. I asked him how long it took him to travel there and he said they flew out of Florida. I asked him what time it was there and was kind of stringing him along and he seemed to get tired of it and hung up but I knew at that point he was going to ask for money.

My mother received a call from whom she believed to be my son Christopher. the caller stated he had been in accident and hit a pregnant woman while texting on his phone, he was arrested and his bond was set at 80,000 and he needed 10% which was 8,000 cash. the caller did not tell my mother what to do with the cash only that they would call back once she gathered the cash. My mother called me with the news so I called my daughter-in-law thinking that my son was in trouble, come to find out that he was at work and it was not him calling for bond money.

my concern is that my parents are senior citizens and panicked thinking that their grandson was in need. I want the news to get out so other older people don’t get scammed. I will tell you that the caller sounded like my son, and knew about him. I warned my parents not to answer again if they call back and do not give any banking info or credit card numbers. also my parents number is listed.

Said she was my granddaughter. She knew my granddaughters and what my granddaughter called me. Said she was in an accident and got arrested for having alcohol in the car. She cried and seemed like it could really by my granddaughter. She said an attorney was going to call me and tell me how much money she needed to send to get her out of jail. They made it sound so real. The "attorney" called from the 850 number. Wanted $1,189 for bail bondsman. Before I went in the bank to get money I called every family member trying to verify where my granddaughter was and finally talked to her, so didn’t send money. They gave me a wiring # of LA941.

My 80 year old mother in law, got a phone call from Juan, a lawyer involved with my grandson who was in an accident. And there was a funeral. Why haven’t you sent the money yet. We told him that we reported him to police and attorney general. The caller spoofed the number of the person they had called prior to the call to her. He said my grandson was in the Dominican Republic. He had an Indian accent.

I am 87 years old. I got a call from someone pretending to be my grandson. He’d been partying and got in an accident. My grandson rear ended the car in front of him. They said he was drunk driving, and tested .086. They said since it was such a small amount, it wasn’t the cause of the accident, but the rental car insurance needed $4500 to release him from jail. They asked if I could help him. I said yes. They said I would need to talk to their attorney. Which I did. I said I would have to check on it. They asked me to call them back at 250-609-2188.

Received a call saying that our Grandson was in an accident in MN and needed money to get back to FL where he lived. He said he was in MN for a funeral and had to get back right away. He was to be in jail and wanted to know if we could help him out as he didn’t have enough money to get back to FL. I thought it sounded like my grandson, but my wife did not. My wife got on the phone and he asked for money and she told him no, that we did not have the funds. He was taken aback and just hung up.

"My Grandchild" called me from the Dominican Republic. He was in the DR for a wedding, and was riding with a female that was speeding and was pulled over. The female had pot, and everyone was arrested. Apparently "my Grandson" was arrested to and was calling from police station. The sergeant got on the phone and advised the money was to be wired via Western Union, before going before the judge. When I advised that I would have to discuss this with someone, the sergeant advised me to not speak with anyone that it was illegal.

I received a call last week from a gentleman claiming to be my grandson. He called me Grandma and he does not call me when he speaks to me. He calls me another name. I also knew was in Spain at the time. He stated he was in a accident. He was difficult to understand because of the injuries but he was at the police station. He gave me a case number stating I would be getting a within a half hour. The next call was from a female (she did not have foreign accent). Can you give me Evan’s full name? I said "no". I asked if his father knew and they said no …. no… no… don’t say anything to the father. I understand this is a scam but I did want to warn others this is going on.
