Type of a scam Tech Support

This company sent an error message to my father who is 73 yrs old via his computer. This message made his computer seem as though it was "crashing" and to call this number to save his files. Naturally he called and they were able to remote in and "fix" the issue and proceed to charge him hundreds of dollars. He stated this was a one time charge and he didn’t want to have to deal with them again. He called me AFTER he did this and I was afraid that he had been scammed. Fast forward to yesterday (5/11/20 at 2:27pm CST) he received a test message that his account has expired and his account has been activated for auto renewal. They have his bank info from the previous transaction back on 1/09/2018. My father is heading to the bank to ensure that this company doesn’t take any more of his money. My mother owns a business and she had a similar situation within the last year on her work computer. She turned the computer off and didn’t respond to any of the prompts. After a few days the message went away. I just want to ensure that this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
