Type of a scam Employment

I received a contact from a friend in LinkedIn saying that she as making $4000 a month as a secret shopper. She told me to check out the website, I filled out a survey (I have done secret shopping before) and then this Jeffrey McDonough started emailing me and sent me a check for $2,985.60 from a Dade County Federal Credit Union made out to my name and re: Junior Sanchez. I did not know the names of the people on the return address and I did not know what to do. They wanted me to go to an Apple Store buy three phones and text 925-338-0741 when I was done to get further instructions on the merchandise and what to do with the leftover funds.

There was no letter head, nothing. I am sure this is a scam and concerned that they are now going through LinkedIn. I do not know what to do with the check or other items.
