On Feb 14, I received a v/m stating that I was owed a refund from First USA Consultants, a company I was using for software maintenance. David identified himself as an employee in the refund processing department of this company. He indicated I was owed a refund for a problem that had been identified in their software. In order to get the refund ($1100). I was advised to go to TARGET and get two gift cards for $1000 each, and another card for $800. David’s manager was not available to provide a valid PIN which would permit me to get the refund. He called me again on 2/21, requesting a call back. We played phone tag for a few days. When I did get in touch with David on 2/23, he said that he had spoken with his manager, Benjamin. However, at this point the prior gift card PIN had expired on the prior gift cards, so David then requested that I return to TARGET and get another card for $700. I continually enquired regarding why I would not simply receive a check as a refund. He indicated that credit card refund was the current process. At this point, this all sounded too much like a scam and I finally checked the phone numbers and determined that this was likely a scam. I presented this information to David and our conversation quickly ended on an abrupt note after accusing David of scamming. I have removed all First USA Consultants software from my computer.

I was on my computer and got a pop-up message from First USA Consultants which said there was a problem with the network.  I gave them control of my computer. They worked on it for over an hour. They wanted me to pay by check, not credit card, and said they would send FedEx to pick it up.
