Total money lost $1,594

Type of a scam Credit Repair/Debt Relief

This company contacted me as a loan forgiveness service provider. I’ve made a total of $1500 in monthly payments to this company and ***(my student loan provider) has not received any payment from this company on my behalf. My credit has dropped due to 190 past due balance which wouldn’t exist if payments made were being paid to my account as promised.

They sent a text message asking for you to call back this number to get forgiveness on student loans. They ask personal questions and when you don’t want to answer or start asking questions about them they hang up.

A friend sent me a link that he found on *** (which i didnt know at the time) to a student loan forgiveness article. There were numerous spots to click to check eligibility. Once you click, it opened up a phone number to call so i called. They asked a few questions about my situation, claimed to be working with the *** ** ***, and they said I was approved. They changed my FSA ID password, which i changed back, they got my Social Security number, address, email, debt card number (which i have since cancelled), and phone number, and had me sign a document called a “Document Preperation and Service Agreement” which contained a fee schedule, credit card authorization form, special limited power of attorney, and national student loan data system access permission. I realized it was a scam after giving my personal information, unfortunately, and i called great lakes and they gave me all the necessary steps i should take to protect myself. In short, the company said my loan would be forgiven after making 6 payments of $199.17 a month, then just $30 a month after that for 233 months. The guy i spoke to said that instead of paying $24,000 back by the time I was done paying, I would only be paying $8,000 and the rest would be forgiven. He also said that I could stop paying my loan at great lakes and that he would take care of it for me, that they would contact great lakes for me. Also that the loan would be placed into forbearance temporarily and when I asked how it would affect my credit, he said it wouldnt negatively affect my credit. I was asked by great lakes to report this to *** and the *** *** ***, so other people dont fall into the same trap that i did.

I received a call, and the caller said that he wanted to look into federal financial loan forgiveness for my federal student loans. Without my permission, he changed the login information for my online account, and acted unprofessionally when confronted. This is FISHY and should not be trusted. The business Financial Preparation Services cannot be trusted.
