Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I received a check in the mail from South Africa. The check was for $2350. Stated I won $250,000. Wanted me to deposit the check and keep $500. Leave in $1850 processing fee. Read that I do not have to give my checking account number. The address on the envelope was Los Angeles. Stamped from Capetown South Africa. Wanted me to call the phone number 877-212-5588. I called the number yesterday. A woman answered Fidelity Financial. She told me not to call any other phone number. She talked very fast with an accent. Told me to take it to the bank and take $500 out. I tore up the mailing. I know it is a scam and fake check.
