This happened to me. I don’t usually post, however, I hope this helps someone.

I was SCAMMED! Monday I received a phone call from a local number 385-394-3637. The man said his name was Sgt William Thomas from the Federal Marshal’s office. He said I failed to show up for jury duty last week. When I said I hadn’t received any notice, He said is this (and he gave my full name) and you reside at (and he gave my full address) and then he said and these are the last 4 of your SS# (and HE said the right numbers). At this point I thought… Can this be real.???? I even questioned him about the procedure. He had an answer for everything. He then told me there was a bench warrant out on me. He gave me the name of the Judge who had issued the warrant (which I googled and he is a real judge in this area). He also gave me his address and office location (Federal building on 25th, 4th floor, Office 2A). He then said "Don’t worry, I will help you get this taken care of so you won’t be arrested or have any problems with my job". He knew where I worked.

He said I needed to come down to the Federal Building to get this taken care of immediately. I kept asking him questions, but he had an answer for everything.

He said I needed to stay on the line, because of security, so if I was pulled over on the way to the courthouse he could verify I was on my way and not running. He told me usually they send an officer to the house, but since I didn’t have a record I could just come down and take care of it and not be embarrassed in front of my family and neighbors.

He knew he had me…..

I said to him "This feels like a scam" He said… I know, I get that all the time…. You can check me out.. Here is the warrant #, and the case #’s (FTA – xxx-xx, COC-xxx-xx) failure to appear and contempt of court) I am not aware how to check on those and they seemed real.

He then told me I needed to bring enough money to post my bail. When I got to the federal building they would reimburse me, but they didn’t take credit cards so I needed to get a voucher from Walgreens or Rite aid or walmart. He said, We do it this way so "Your identity stays safe!!!" He said he was protecting me…

I was believing at this point and I did get the voucher for the $451 (I thought…. if it was a scam it wouldn’t be an odd number….) After a purchased this voucher he said he needed "just the last 4 numbers on the back to verify I had purchased the right one"

He then had me drive to the Federal Building. He told me to wait outside, until everything cleared off my record. I waited for about 5 min and then he told me, "It is taking longer than I thought, can you come back at 3pm?’ I was upset because this was taking my whole day and I needed to get back to work. But I said I would.

I hung up the phone and walked straight into the Federal Building and asked the guards if William Thomas worked there. They said NO!!!!! Then I told them a little about what was going on. They said… We don’t do that here.. and YOU HAVE BEEN SCAMMED. We have seen a few of you guys in the past month!!!! I then went straight to the Ogden Police Department and filed a report. They said I needed to file a report in my city too. So I did. The police took the information, and will look into it as much as they can…

WHY is this not on the NEWS or in the Paper????

Since getting home, I have received 3 phone calls from this number. I answered the 1st time and William Thomas said "You missed your 3:00 appointment" We need to reschedule. When I said "I was there and you weren’t, he hung up on me"

I have not answered the other calls. I have reported them to the police.

Last night, I checked my message machine and would you believe, He left a message for my SON to call him back. William Thomas said "This is Sgt William Thomas from the Federal Marshal’s office, I need to speak to you immediately. Please call me back this is very important" Then he gave the same number from above.

Please DO NOT get caught by this brazen, [censored]!

It all sounds like a scam when I play it back in my head, but at the time, I was scared and confused. I didn’t know how the judicial system worked. But now I do! NO ONE will call you and tell you about a bench warrant. They will send a Certified Letter.
