Type of a scam Government Grant

11:06 am I received a call from "federal Government Grant Department" that I was eligible to receive $4,000 because I am a college graduate. The caller knew my name, date of birth, address and obviously my phone number. i was then coached to answer specific questions and specific way and not LIE and say I was not coached. Then I received a 2nd call to which the person identified as being a part of education resource US, and he began to ask me the same questions, and when I said that someone had coached me and told me to LIE, he then said goodbye. I was given a confirmation # 286021. I would like to know how my information is so readily available and how can I protect myself. Thank you
