Lady called and said I had an arrest warrant for unpaid taxes 2012-2016.

I said I’d go to Joplin IRS office, she said it’s too late for that, she will issue a warrant for my arrest. I said I will contact an attorney, she said I need to handle my own problems, and be responsible for paying my taxes as every citizen should.

Type of a scam Phishing

They called me on my cellphone and told me that I had a crime committed under my name and that the police will contact me soon. Then, they said I had to stay on the phone line while they transferred me over to someone. When I asked what the crime was, they refused to tell me until I was transferred over. The phone number points to a fake web listing called Federal Bureau-Investigation located in Johnstown, PA. When I hung up, a second number (16303184762) called me repeatedly. I believe this is a scam and an attempt of identity theft.

Type of a scam Tax Collection

They started the call at 3:34pm on Wednesday 3/1/17 and told me that I have violated the educational law and that there has been a file claimed against me/ Identity is being under investigation. That is when I got into my car and tried to drive home. Then they told me that they were the FBI and that there is a warrant for my arrest. At this time I was so scared because I have never been arrested before! They said that, that day was the deadline to pay for my fine. They also said that there has been IRS notice sent to my mail in December that I have not seen before but I believed it because I’m constantly moving every year because I am a college student. They would not allow me to talk to anyone or have a third party and would not hang up the phone. They told me that the reason why I had a warrant for my arrest was because I did not complete the Form 8863 and I have a total of $7,850 in penalty fines and taxes I have not paid for since 2013. I believed him even more because I have recently have had issues with my tax this year but did have it resolved so I thought this was another tax issue I did not know about. They had me go to a government certified place to settle the warrant for my arrest. Then I got a 911 call and the "officer’ said that they were at my door for my arrest but then I told them I was on the other line with the fbi officer and then they called it off because they had the confirmation that I was trying to resolve the case. They told me to go to the nearest walmart in Ames, IA and purchase a walmart gift card and put in $1,000 total for two gift cards. Then they told me to read the back of the card number and pin to verify that it was able work to stop my arrest. Then the next location they wanted me to go was 210 Walnut st. Des Moines, IA. This was a government building and I was suppose to meet up with the IRS to review my case. Then as I was driving to Des Moines officer Justin Wallace (the man I talked to the most) said I needed to talk to his senior officer James Anderson about the warrant for my arrest. He said that the money was not enough to stop but if I put down more money I would be able to stop my arrest. He told me I had to put down $1500 more and so I stopped at Ankeny, IA to purchase three more gift cards. So I had a total of $2,500 in walmart gift cards but by the time I got to Des Moines it was 7:20pm and he hung up the phone at 8:30pm and did not call me back. I was too scared to contact anyone because he said I was not allowed to have a third party involved and I did not want to break the law. Eventually by 9:00pm I contacted my friend to come and get me and I told her my story and she knew that it was a scam. By that time I called my stepfather and explained to him in detail and by 11:30pm I was still in Des Moines and realized that it was a scam. I contacted my Iowa State University Adviser and contacted the Ames police department. I was running around Iowa very vulnerable because they used my fears on my education to get me.
