Type of a scam Debt Collections

Called about a bank account I used to have at a local bank. I had a bad feeling and told them I would have to do some digging because I felt like it was a scam. I did my research and saw that the bank info they gave me was legit so I thought the "debt" was legit. I paid it before calling the actual bank. Turns out it wasn’t legit. The bank would never use a third party debt collection. I had to cancel my credit card. Lesson learned.
