Type of a scam Utility

Call from Direct tv offering promotion to lower our bill. We are already direct tv customer. They had all of our billing information and caller I’d identified them as direct tv. Offer was for 59.00 a Month for 24 months which includes all movie channels. We just had to pay the first 5 Months upfront. We were instructed to get an Amazon gift card for 300.00 and call them back with the card info within 5 hours to get the promotion sponsored by Amazon. Right there was a warning. We said to the guy, ok we will go get the card and call you back. Instead we called the direct tv number that is on our bill. We were told direct tv is not offering that promotion and it is a scam. We did not get the gift card. But I wish direct tv would let its customers know to be aware of this scam since they are aware of it themselves.
