Type of a scam Employment

I received an email stating that I applied for an administrative position which was taken however there was a position available for me to become a personal assistant instead at $600 a week. I said I was interested and the "employer" asked that I sent them my name,address, phone number so they could run a background check. Within hours they accepted and said they would start me off with an assignment which would require me to go ahead and receive a $4800 check that I would have to cash at my bank and then immediately make payments to her clients from my account. I thought it was very fictional to get a check for such a large amount without even checking my background or having me sign some sort of hire form. I received a text from "the employer" giving me instructions to check my email and when I tried calling the number back there was nothing but a dial tone. I emailed the party back saying I am not interested in their job and that I will not be cashing in a check.
