Type of a scam Credit Cards

I am a teacher. Someone pretending to be my high school principal, contacted me with an urgent email asking for a favor today, I said sure, and what I could do for him. He said he was tied up in a meeting and could I run to the store and purchase 3 gift cards or the school for him. I ran to the grocery store and bought the 3 cards knowing that the school would reimburse me. However when he emailed me to take a picture of the cards and email it to him rather than run it up to the school, I knew something was up. I then received another email from the actual principal at the normal email address saying that he had been asked by numerous teachers if he really needed help. He sent out a blanket email to all the teachers saying it was a scam. I never gave the "bad guy" the numbers off the back of the cards, but am now stuck with 300 dollars of I tunes cards…. I know what my kids will get for next Christmas.

I do not know who Erin Olson, Finance Manager, is nor what institution she/he represents The email had an attached document that was supposed to be a copy of the Wire Transfer but my email security would not let me open it and suggested that it was suspect

FYI

Please find the attached for wire transfer copy from our bank. We have remitted full amount to you.

Thanks
