EXTENDED VEHICLE WARRANTY. Tuesday, Jan 26, 2016. Contacted by a guy that said his name was John with EasyCare warranty. Number he called from was 713-460-1091 out of Houston, TX. He asked me if I had received my notification in the mail that my warranty on my BMW X5 was going to expire on March 22, 2016. I told him my husband opens the mail so I had no idea if I had received it, but I think that date is incorrect because it doesn’t expire until 2019. He tried to convince me that the dealership made a mistake since this was a certified pre-owned car the warranty started when the car was originally leased in 2010.

I assured him he was wrong, but he kept insisting that I needed to talk to him about this or I would miss out on my opportunity to renew my terms of the warranty at a reasonable price. I replied that I was driving (which was true, hands free blue tooth) and could not discuss it with him, he would have to let me call him back or call me back later. He hung up.

Same day, 3.5 hours later, contacted by a girl that said her name was Wendy and she was calling from the Automotive Customer Care Department of BMW (and she knew the name of my dealership). Number she called from was 940-213-1649 out of Iowa Park, TX. She told me that they had sent me a notice in the mail about my warranty that was going to expire in March. I told her she was incorrect but she insisted she was not mistaken and wanted me to talk to her. At the time I was at work so I made sure I had her name and asked if I could call her back. She then informed me that they were not allowed to give out a call back number and that she would need to call me back when it was more convenient. I asked her again what the name of her company was and she told me she was with the Automotive Cusomer Care Department. I replied that she had given me the name of her department but I wanted the name of her company.

She tried to tell me the same thing again and I stopped her and told her that she needed to tell me the name of her company and I was writing it down. She hung up.

With two calls in one day I started to doubt myself so I called my finance guy at my dealership to verify the details of my warranty. He told me that my warranty expired in 2019 like I originally thought.

When I got home from work there was a notice in the mail from EasyCare. It was very official looking and right across the front of it in big letters said "Courtesy coverage expiration alert for your 2010 BMW X5 Xdrive35d. Your current Easycare warranty contract will expire on 03/22/2016". (LOL, the same date John gave me yesterday.) It basically said the same thing, warranty will expire, call this number, 866-945-6198 with your current mileage and you will save $250 when you renew, offer expires on 01/29/2016. Blah, blah, blah. There was no address, no website info, but it did have the Motor Trend and ScamPulse.com Accredited Business logos at the bottom. So I went and pulled up my actual EasyCare policy and re-read it (again doubting myself) and I was right and so was my finance guy at the dealership, it expires in 2019.

Since the BBB logo was on there I decided to check and see if I could find out more info. I found several stories that were almost identical so I thought I would add mine to the list.

My recommendation to anyone in this situation is to get their name, a call back number, take copious notes and mention that you are writing down everything that you are discussing just to make sure you have all of the correct information to include the number that is coming up on your caller ID. They will probably hang up at that point.
