Type of a scam Online Purchase

Company offered Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies at a significant discount ($600/puppy). After much discussion we agreed to purchase two dogs with 50% up front and 50% upon delivery. We were told we could not pick the dogs up due to COVID but that transportation would be arranged for $200/dog. We asked in advance for the name of the transport company and were told they would only know that when scheduling transport. Once the deposit was made (through Zelle), we were contacted by United Pet Transport. They then said that due to the age of the puppies we would need special thermal electronic crates and would have to pay in cash upfront anywhere from ($1990-$2990/crate) with the understanding we would be reimbursed 98% upon delivery of the dogs. Once we objected, neither Divine King Charles Puppies nor United Pet Transport would respond to phone calls/e-mails/texts. We have not recovered our deposit of $800.

We were looking for puppies and came across Diving King Charles Cavalier Puppies. We inquired about adopting a dog and were told the rate was going to be $600 for the dog and $200 for shipping. We were told that because of COVID we would not be allowed to pick the dogs up and would have to have them shipped. The representative had answers about the dogs and sent us multiple pictures and videos but when asked about transport said that he would not know which company until the dogs were ready to be shipped. We emailed with the representative, texted, and talked with him on the phone. We also agreed to pay 50% as a deposit over Axelle with the rest of the money coming when the dogs arrived. After the 50% deposit was paid, he said that we would be contacted by the pet carrier service and they would give us more information on the shipping. When that company contacted us they said that they needed to use a special crate, a Thermal Electronic Crate, and that it would cost an addition $2000-$3000 paid in cash. They also said that 98% of that cost would be reimbursed when the puppies arrived. At that point we tried contacting the dog seller and the shipping company and could not get any responses once we said we did not want to pay that amount.
