Type of a scam Tech Support

An individual calls from a technical department saying that you have purchased software in the amount of XXX (in my case, $199) for an annual membership for a malwarebytes or some kind of malware software. They are calling because they want to update the software and want to know if now is a good time. They can’t tell you anything about the type of software, the name on the account, the credit card used, or any personally identifying information. If you asked to be transferred to the billing department, they basically transfer you to some other person sitting next to the person.

Be ware, they are trying to gather your personal information. They have generic email accounts, toll free numbers, and their names definitely don’t match (Michael Smith, for example, or James…. and these are definitely not their given names).
