Type of a scam Employment

Was contacted through online job search site, given a single interview via google hangouts before being offered a position. A check has been mailed to me to be deposited and used for software/office supplies for the position, was told to send a photo of the deposit slip once I had done so. No W4 or official looking documents were included in the package, received, only a poorly written letter rife with spelling/grammar errors and no official letterhead, telling me to ignore news of the financial officer’s resignation.
