I signed up for mystery shopping from an email I received from my school, Ohio University. I thought since it came from the school it would be legit. A few weeks later I received an email from George Wilson, discussing the mystery shopping program and congratulating me, letting me know they would send me my first assignment by mail with my first assignment check in the amount of $300 plus an additional $50 if the survey is completed in 48 hours. I was a little leery of a check being sent but since it was a small check I did not think much of it. I was told I would receive packet within a week. The first week past, no packet. The second week no packet, but I received a text message from George Wilson 470-263-2510 asking if I received and I let them know I had not. This morning received another message from him saying it was delivered today and to call or text 415-854-0849 to discuss status of delivery, deposit and survey. Note he called the company this time Insight Survey Service and not Consumer Insight LLC. I did receive packet today with the survey and check for $2,465.00 dated for 11/21/2018. With instructions to purchase to apple store gift cards , $1000 each to total $2000 and the my $300 survey fee plus bonus $50 but does not explain where the extra $115 would go. Just wanted to warn others to beware!!

Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Received email through my university email provider from George Wilson, MBA of Consumer Insight LLC telling me that he was sending me a packet for a mystery shopper job. After about a week from the day the email was sent, a Priority Mail letter came with an instruction note (that looked very amateurish) as well as a Survey Sheet that I was to fill out after visiting my local Apple Store. The real red flag is the fake cashier’s check for $2,465.00. I was to go to the bank and cash the check then take the money and purchase two $1,000 Apple gift cards, scratch the cards, and take pics and email the card numbers back to George Wilson along with the completed survey, then I would recieve $350.00 in payment.

The scammer had a legit website and also a legit look to the postal mail but was not trust worthy. Sent 3 money order checks and also a paper instruction for buying giftcards.

Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Someone at our school UTA their email was hacked. I received an email saying it was a UTA job opportunity. So, I opened it was from a trusted personnel from school. All you had to do was click accept and it sent you to a website. The website was legit, sounded fun, and easy! I’m a struggling college student so I figured what the heck.

They mailed me a paper with instructions, check, and survey form.

Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Scammer contacted through mail. Congratulated me for receiving first survey packet and provided instructions to visit local Apple store and purchase 2 Apple store gift cards for $1500 each. There was a check included in the mail for $3,465. The instructions say that the company, Consumer Insight LLC, has a payment restriction on the check to prevent unauthorized cashing. They request the check to be deposited into an active checking account in order for the restriction to be lifted. They also state that after the check is cashed to text them as soon as the deposit is made so funds are made available to me. The number on the letter was (415) 854-0849. The letter then states that they will give an additional $100 for surveys completed within the first 2 business days of packet delivery, making the total pay out $400 instead of $300. After purchase, the instructions state to text a picture of the receipt and the scratched/peeled off Apple store gift card. They provided a survey sheet to write down the experience of purchasing the gift cards at the local Apple store.

The check was not deposited and I did not go to the Apple store. The letter contained multiple grammar errors and was postmarked from San Antonio, Texas.
