Type of a scam Tech Support

Just wanted to let you know about a company in your area that is scamming people. The name of the company is Computer 24 by 7. A few months ago they put a message on one of our computers about a bad problem. They said to call them at once to fix it. Unfortunately my husband did that. They got him to purchase a 3 year contract that they said would take care of everything for 3 years — fix all problems, keep everything safe and secure and monitor the computer for any malware, bugs, and all infections and clean them up. They charged over $300+ to his credit card.

Yesterday we got a call from someone named David Smith who said he was with Computer 24 by 7 and that they were going out of business and the BBB was making them refund us $370. Mr Smith tried to “refund” the money by having my husband download a program called Teamviewer. He then tried to get info on a debit card which he was told we do not have. Then he tried to get banking info. When that did not work my husband asked him to just refund the money to the credit card he used in the first place. He said they could not do that. Mr Smith then tried to do something through Western Union. That did not work either. He then said he’d talk to a supervisor and call the next day.

Meanwhile my husband went to the bank to check his account and was told all was OK. He then called his credit card company and was told someone tried to charge the account $500 through Western Union. It was denied. The credit card has now been cancelled.

This evening David Smith called again. He said he was trying to refund $370. I told him to send a check or I was contacting the FBI, the BBB, the attorney general and any place else to report a scam. The man hung up.
