Type of a scam Online Purchase

My brother who is disabled was victimized by this company who falsely promises delivery of a discounted item (an iPhone) and then does not deliver. This unscrupulous company then submits a charge of over $100.00. the company has an address of Denmark but the area code is in Ottawa and surrounding Eastern Ontario, Canada, in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP)

Type of a scam Phishing

Recently I entered a contest for the price of 1.99 for the chance to win an iPhone6.  It was not until I opened my visa statement that I had been charged that amount as well as 119.00 for a membership fee to Club White   I felt that I was tricked into paying the amount of 119.00.   I did not know that by paying the original price 1.99 for a chance at winning an iPhone 6 would lead to the ridiculous charges.

Type of a scam Sweepstakes/Lottery/Prizes

I was on the internet and a Bell Canada survey comes up requesting that you answer questions via multiple choice. Then it indicates you win a gift, a free IPhone 6 serives and all you do is fill out your mailing address and a charge of $1.99. The $1.99 is taken out of your account however it reads Club White Smile. So my husband and I thought it was for a sample of their teeth whitening product and that was the end of it. A week later a $119 is taken out of my husband’s account. When I inquired at Bell there is no such survey on the internet. We contacted my husband’s bank and they said unfortunately they could not do anything as the money was already paid out. The bank provided a phone number and email address. 613-699-5594. I contacted white smile by phone and they told me it was a membership and so I cancelled the membership however they now will not reimburse the money ($119) as they said we had time to cancel (Nov. 23 they took $1.99 and then Dec. 1, $119 from the account only a week 2 transactions were made). We were not notified of this membership nor did we receive any confirmation from them or anything concrete that we had a membership with them. They indicated in their email that the ID was 2089526.

On the internet there is this company from Denmark called Club White Smile who put an add out (text = smishing) that for $1.99 you could enter a contest to win an iPhone.  Of course they ask for your credit card information to process your entry into the contest.  On the ad, there is no indication that in three days time your credit card info is being used to register you into this club that requires you to pay a $119.00 per month membership fee.  If you go to their website, you find this info in very small print and at the very bottom of the page. This is very misleading.  I only found out about the monthly fee when I looked at my credit card statement.  Of course when I tried to get in touch with this company, the email address given was not active and I could not get in touch by phone as the line always had a busy signal.  This is fraud.  I don’t expect I will see my money back but I took measures this does not happen again.  I cancelled my credit card and reported this scam to my credit card company.  They have this company on file now.
