Type of a scam Online Purchase
Replied to craigslist ad in Cincinnati area (poster said they were from Dayton) for a 2008 VW Beetle listed at $1500. The poster replied using the name Clara Blake using the email [email protected] and claimed to be from
Bravo Company, 29th Infantry Division
Virginia National Guard
and was going overseas and didn’t want to pay for storage and insurance while she was gone and that she needed to sell the car quickly. She than claimed that eBay was handling the info for her and that if I gave her my mailing address and phone number she would initiate the transaction through eBay. I than received an email from [email protected] that said I needed to get eBay gift certificates and couldn’t use PayPal to pay for the vehicle. Upon checking my eBay account there was no record there that any type of transaction was initiated. I did not send money and reported the scam to eBay immediately.
