I was contacted by a Brendan Walsh from Optimus Rides on July 27, 2020 saying his company saw my resume online and wanted to know if I was interested in joining his company as a HR Representative. I replied yes and I was requested to have an online interview with Brendan through the Telegram App. I conducted a 1 on 1 interview with Brendan and he replied the next day July 28, 2020 stating that the company wanted to offer me the HR position. Optimus did send an email with a W2 form and offer letter welcoming me to the company. I did fill out the W2 with my name and SSN plus my DOB. Brendan then proceeded to have a company check sent to me via USPS to purchase work from home computer equipment I would need to perform my job duties. Once I received the check I deposited into my bank account on July 30, 2020. I was notified by my bank (Santander Bank) on July 31, 2020 that my account was on hold due to the fraud department checking on the validity of the check that was sent to me. I looked at my bank account through my app on August 4, 2020 and saw an alert stating the check had been returned as a fictious item and I was charged $15 as a returned check fee to my account. When I attempted to reach Brendan Walsh regarding this issue, I got no response. I then contacted my bank’s fraud department for more information. They confirmed to me that the check was not a real check and that they are conducting an ongoing investigation and that my debit card is frozen pending further review. I went to my local Police Department and filed a Police Report regarding indentity theft.
