Type of a scam Debt Collections
My husband and I received a call from this number that was a recorded message that stated, there was a complaint against my husband from the "county office" and they were looking for him; and then asked for a call back. This seemed oddly familiar because in November this same message was received by husband, where he actually paid them $400.00 because they claimed he had an outstanding credit card balance from 2011. He shouldn’t have paid it, but he did. They asked for credit card information over the phone. When it showed up on our bank statement, it said it was from New York with a different number than stated above. This time we did not pay and called back, and the person whom answered the phone said "CFS". The person would not tell us what CFS stood for, until we called him on it and said, we were told by someone else we spoke with, they said it stood for "Coastal Financial Services" and he then said, "Oh yah, that is what CFS stands for". He then did not ask for a social or a last name or any identifiers, but told us that my husband had another debt for $650.00, that he would have to pay over the phone with a credit card or they would make sure it negatively affected his credit. We then asked for a mailing address, but the person on the phone would not provide it and said they only accepted credit card payments. We then asked, how do they know what we owe when they did not ask for any identifiers, and the caller had not response and hung up. This is a complete scam and we already lost $500 and need to change out credit card info. I don’t think we will get out money back, but I don’t want this to happen to other people.
This is what showed on our bank statement: "ASR *** NY 11/02"
