Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order
Yesterday (5/21/2020) my wife received a priority mail envelope with a cashier’s check for $2,350.00 along with a sheet of instructions for depositing it and using the proceeds to buy gift cards at nearby Walmart stores. The instructions say to 1) deposit the check, 2) deduct $350.00 as "upfront pay", 3) use the remaining $2,000 to purchase gift cards at 2 Walmart stores, and 4) send pictures of the "16-digit code as well as 4-digit pin code" scratched off each of the cards.
