While accessing the internet, the computer froze and a warning appeared indicating that a virus had been detected and to immediately call the number on the screen. Once the number was called, an individual indicated that they were a technician who would assist in resolving the issue. They provided a URL to type in (don’t remember) so they could remotely access my computer. Once access was authorized, they ran a scan and said there was a virus on the computer and they could fix the issue. The technician spoke with broken English and really fast. It was hard to understand. The fee to fix the computer was $199.98 which was a one time fix it fee and was non-refundable. They also sign you up for a 3 Year Service Contact that you declined, however charged an additional $399.98 for that contact. Charges are currently being disputed with credit card vendor. The service technician also removed the already installed anti-virus software on the computer and reinstalled it. This is a scam at it’s finest.
