Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

My husband was trying to sell our car on Craigslist. His listing provided his cell number for contact. A "buyer" did text him right away, saying he liked the car and thought the offer was a good price and wanted to send him a cashier’s check upfront since he was out of town. Once it cleared the bank, we would make arrangements on how he would pick up the car. So, my husband agreed. The buyer asked him to take the listing off Craigslist and asked for his name and address for the check. Some days went by and then the buyer texted saying he had a family emergency and had noticed that his assistant made an error with the cashier’s check that was already sent out. The check had $1,700 added to it. That extra money was supposed to be a separate payment for the shipper. So, he asked that when my husband receives the check to deduct the list price and forward the remaining amount to the shipper and make arrangements to have the car picked up. Once the check came in, he realized it was a scam and did not cash it.
