Type of a scam Identity Theft

We have a very disturbing incident to report.

On July 17, 2019, we received a phone call from a very concerned lawyer in Mexico City. He claimed to represent the Bolivar Abogados law firm. He proceeded to inform us that our identities and personal information were stolen from Vidanta, a Mexican resort, and sold to a cartel. He said the Mexican government was very concerned about this type of identity theft, it is fraud, affects tourism etc. and the Government retained his law firm to investigate and asked if he could add us to a list of names that was recovered through the proceeds of crime. He indicated a substantial amount of money could be awarded through the courts. Would you believe two weeks passed and official looking documents, complete with the judicial seal of Mexico, were sent to us, with a judgement of $31,177.25 awarded in our names! They said we had to wire $1,550.00 USD to a bank in Jalisco, which would then release these funds to us. We were pretty suspicious about all of this, so we retained a 3rd party lawyer in Mexico City to investigate, it cost us $145.00 USD, and we just got his report this afternoon. It was a scam. The documents including the official seal of Mexico were fake, no real judgement was issued to us, the deposit account was to a sports organization and the lawyers were fake. The scammers were very convincing, however, we had some small doubt and acted on it. End of story, hopefully.

We are concerned, however, that this scam will continue unless we notify the proper authorities. Recent online searches do not show this type of scam as trending. If you require any documents or recorded phone conversations, please contact us, we will provide as much as we can.

Yours in Trust,
