I received a call from a Restricted number (which I never answer), they left a voicemail saying it was about a legal matter and that they had tried to serve me with papers but they were undeliverable at my address and returned. They told me to call them back, and gave me a case # to reference when I called. I called the next day, to which the lady that answered simply says ‘How can I help you? (No name, name of business, nothing…) I told her I was calling because of a voicemail I received, she asked for the case # and forwarded me to a guy named Brian (no last name)…he proceeds to tell me I’m being sued for an unpaid credit card I had over 8yrs ago (it was only a $300 limit), and then asks what my excuse was for never paying it. He then tells me the bank is suing me for the money (the total is now a little over $800 after interest over the years), and in order to avoid going to court and paying legal fees I need to set up a payment arrangement with them. He had all my personal info (name, phone #, address, social security #,etc…), and asked me how much I could afford every month until it was paid off. I started asking him questions (because why the hell are they threatening to sue me for a measly $800 for a bill over 8yrs old?!?), what law firm does he work for, what is his full name, etc…
Then I ask him to send me an official statement in the mail, and he refuses and tells me they don’t mail anything…to which I replied “Well the voicemail your company left me claims they tried to have legal documents served at my address but it was returned as ‘undeliverable’, so if you can try to serve me with ‘legal documents’ why can’t you sent me a professional statement in the mail”? He proceeded to tell me that that’s not how this works and that they don’t send mail and I have to make a payment arrangement over the phone, blahblahblah… I told him I thought this was a bull[censored] scam and he started to get angry with me, told me I needed to stop asking questions and listen to what he had to say… then he got frustrated and put me on hold, and that’s when I hung up.
I immediately went online to Google his ‘law firm’ (Blackwell Bristol & Associates) and that’s when I found this site. I knew it was a scam, DON’T FALL FOR IT!

This company pretends to be attorneys and tells you that you have a civil summons when actually they are full of crap.

Madison Reyes contacted me and told me I was to receive legal documents but they had been returned undeliverable. She proceeded to tell me I owed $3962 dollars for a HSBC credit card. She made me an offer to settle for the amount of $1981. Or be taken to court for $15,000 including legal fees. I called HSBC to confirm I had no such credit card with them. I called her back to explain it was an error (believing she was legitimately from a law firm) and she was extremely rude, manipulative and still attempting to threaten me.

I gave a lengthy description of the encounter on your “complain” post, from Jeannie Kersten, Aug. 14.2020
This was an attempt to collect a debt I did not owe. They had all my personal information including my FULL social Security #, which I’m extremely concerned about.

Debt collection scam

Yesterday I got a call and voice mail saying I had been mailed some legal papers in regards to a court appearance to collect a debt and they came back to them, and I needed to call immediately 1-888-719-0293 Ext. 101.
I did call thinking this must be a mistake. I talked to C. Harris. She said I owed $65,000.00 to HSBC Bank and I had 24 hours to settle the debt. She said the legal papers they sent came back and she said my address and it was correct. I said I don’t know why they came back.
She told me my FULL social security #, and 2 currant credit cards I have. I asked her what the name of her firm was and said it was Blackwell, Bristol and Associates.
I told her this must be a mistake or it’s a scam. She said , if it was a scam, I would be trying to get your information, not giving you your information. She said if I don’t pay they can garnishee my wages and seize my bank account and take any tax refunds.
I told her I have never heard of this bank and do not owe them any money. She insisted I do and said she will make me an offer of settling the debt for $4,000.00, if I do it today. I told her I want the banks phone # and my account number. I insisted I want to call them and I will call her back tomorrow. She agreed and said I must call back within 24 hours.
I talked to my daughter and we decided this is definitely a scam!
I’m extremely concerned about her having my FULL social security #.
My next step is to report this to usa.gov (report scams and frauds)
I’m not calling the bank # she gave me. It’s probably one of the scammers # and a phony account #.

Daisy – Aug 06, 2020

I just received a call from a private caller advising that an attempt to serve papers with regard to a civil matter to my “correct” mailing address had been returned. I was then provided with the following number – 1-877-460-1370 – when my call was answered – I was briefly transferred to the “Firm” Blackwell and Bristol – at the onset of the call the firm was never acknowledged. I was cited a case number, my last SS and my mailing address. It was advised that I have a delinquent account with Brylane Home in the amount of $15,000 and if I wanted to take care of that today and be charged the additional expense of a process server, court fees and any other incurring charges related to the delivery of these documents. The number is 877-460-1370 and the individual was Madison Reyes – who is very rude and unprofessional. I will contact the BBB.

I received a message from Madison Reyes. She said she worked for Blackwell, Bristol and associates. She said a warrant went out for my address 45 days ago and that I was about to go to court or receive a failure to appear because I had not responded to their correspondence. She said I had a debt from Capital One, she said the last four digits of my Social Security number, and offered me two options to pay in full or to pay $177 a month for the next 12 months. She said since I did not get the paperwork she would give me until tomorrow which is 24 hours by the close of business to make my decision before they apply for a wage garnishments and I will have to pay the debt and legal fees up to $9998. He even knew that I had paid off previous accounts. I immediately can to BBB. What’s disturbing is she knew the last digits of my Social Security number. I’m very concerned at this point.

Mathew – Oct 21, 2020

I just received the exact same call but she had my full SSN. They told me that this “account” was not longer in collections and turned over to the attorney. Tried to get me to settle for some low monthly payment or I would have to pay the full amount plus legal fees totaling $9998. She knew what other credit cards I had an suggested I pay using one of those. She even knew what the available credit was on them.
