Type of a scam Online Purchase

The company Big Offers Mall claimed that they were selling the brand Spring Valley Diabetes Daily Vitamin pack at a much lower price than everywhere else and free shipping for orders over $49.00. The price was excellent and mostly because I couldn’t find them for sale anywhere anymore. So, I submitted an order that was denied and the reason they gave was that I couldn’t use a debit card and that my card had a low trust score and was possibly a virtual debit card.I could however use a whole host of gift cards like Amazon, Walmart, etc. This happened over a course of a few days emailing back and forth and in the process I unfortunately asked my brother to use an actual credit card to pay for the sale and we would split the 7 bottles I ordered as he’s Diabetic as well. He did and 2 days later, the Saturday before Easter I was awakened by a call from my banks fraud department asking me if I had just made purchases out of town in NYC. These charges were P.O.S. charges totaling $727.50! I had to close my account and get a new debit card and file a dispute. I called my brother and told him what happened and he said that he was turned down by them as well but his card was secure so he wasn’t worried. Low and behold 3 days later he calls me and tells me that his bank notified him as well only he only had about $30.00 charged from a Farmer’s Only Online Dating Service. I suspect this scammer is female because most of what was purchased was makeup, clothing and shoes, and, of course, the dating service. Also, my banks online services are unavailable until 4/09/2018 due to website updating so I have to file the actual dispute then. I assume I will get the money back from the bank when all said and done still, I’m really annoyed that this happened and don’t want anyone else to fall victim.
