Type of a scam Home Improvement

A man named Daniel Urbina said he has a business named Better Kitchens & Baths convinced us to pay him $3000 for cabinets. He also claimed to have 25 years experience remodeling. We hired him to put a beam up in our home. He had no idea what he was doing. He used our saw za to cut through all of the supporting beams in the ceiling. When we asked him about using our saw, he denied it, and then went out and bought his own, probably with our $3000. It was the wrong tool to use. He destroyed a bunch of electrical wires in the kitchen, causing us hundreds of dollars worth of electrical problems. He put the beam in but didn’t put any brackets on the rest of the supports. When I expressed dissatisfaction with the work and said I didn’t want him to install the cabinets, but simply drop them off, he said it wasn’t worth his time and that he would be refunding our money. We have yet to see a dime. He’s had our money for 3 weeks. We even paid in full for the beam, which was stupid in hind site, but I was afraid of this from the beginning after he went to OUR bank, same day and cashed the check. The police said since he did work in the home that it’s a civil matter. I think this guy knows that which is why he convinced us to do other work there. His business name is nowhere to be found on the internet except for through the secretary of state, last updated in 2015. I’ve attached 2 pics of damage done and my husband putting in the support brackets he should’ve. Unfortunately, there are no cabinets.
