Type of a scam Travel/Vacations

My friend was contacted by a representative from International Real Estate Connections LLC (IREC) about selling her timeshare in Mexico. He told her he had a buyer that was willing to pay $42,500. She asked me to get involved since I’m a paralegal. Everything seemed legit about the two companies including the websites and phone numbers. When I Google mapped the addresses, office buildings appeared at those addresses.

To make the scam seem even more real, all the people involved from the two companies use the active real estate and/or CPA license information of "real" people pretending to be them. The closing agent at Best American kept asking my friend to wire money to Mexican banks for a variety of things such as: transfer fees, closing costs, commissions, excess income tax and others. She was asked to sign a (bogus) contract, which they kept holding over her head so she’d keep paying the money. The contract seemed valid and both companies were involved on the phone reading when Kenna signed it.

The reason I’m writing this complaint is because I fronted the money to my friend with the expectation I’d be reimbursed when it closed and then a few grand on top of that from the sale. She didn’t have the funds available and we were told there would be no out of pocket costs over the phone before the contract was signed. I lost over $55k. The scam was finally discovered on 12/6/19. The building at the address on the (IREC) website is for sale and is currently vacant. I spoke to the realtor that is selling the property. The building at Best American’s address is just an apartment building. The property manager confirmed Best American Title & Closing Services is definitely not located there.
