Type of a scam Government Grant

I was recently contacted by someone who I worked with that was telling me about the federal government and they grants that they give out and they informed me if I sent out x amount of dollars and shared my personal information with them I would receive a certain amount of money and me not known I sent it and turned out to be a scammer. Please help me.
