I am not sure why they sent me a check of $2502.74 and wrote me an email. What will happen if I redeem the check?

This is what’s in the email:

Hello Esteemed Shopper: ID-87-95-44.

I am touching base with you in regards to your first assignment. You were scheduled for an assignment and a check payment of($2,502) was sent to the address you provided to us with instructions to guide you for your 1st survey assignment.

But I am yet to receive your completed reports. Please answer the questions below:

1. Have you deposit the check yet?
2. Has it cleared?
3. When were you advised that it will clear?

A simple reply to my e-mail will be appreciated to confirm the status of the assignment to enable us move to the next survey without delay.

Thank You,

Thank you for this!

I signed up after seeing a job posting and just received the following email from Mike Powell ([email protected]). The subject is “Job Position Confirm”. It seems suspicious that they would send me my first check immediately before I’ve done anything, so I marked it as spam and will be be shredding the check upon receipt so they don’t get my bank account number or signature.

I’ll come back and report the information on the check once I get it, just like Private1576026788 did.

Here is the email in full AND I’ve attached a screenshot.

Notice the HORRIBLE spelling, grammar, and lack of spacing after periods.

Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

Michael Smith reached out to me via Linkedin private message. He was approaching me with being able to perform "secret shopping" assignments to be done at my convenience. I have previously worked with secret shoppers, so I didn’t think anything of the legitimacy at least of the activity. He asked for email address where he could send me more information.

Once I have received the packet in the mail – there was a check for $2500 and the attache instruction sheet. It did not seem on the level to me, so I called ScamPulse.com to inquire about this particular person / company. I have noted that likely wanting to take $2500 from me by obtaining my account information and signature likely after check was to be deposited or that and worse.

Type of a scam Employment

Filled out an application for business evaluations. Received an envelope with a cashier check for $3,610 made out to me without any contact other than instructions on how to use the money once the cashier check is cashed. Instructions are to keep $550, buy a $30 cashier check made out to Vasa Children’s Home; then go to 3 different retailers and purchase eBay gift cards in $100, $200, and $500 denominations, then scratch off the coating on the back to reveal the claim code, then take a photo back and front and emailed the photos and an evaluation report of the business conduct. With instructions to mail the Vasa cashier check and gift cards to an address they would give me once I perform per instructions. I also was to take a photo of the Vasa check after I walk out of my bank and text it to them, Note: the person (Michael Smith) in contact with me via email and mobile text also has another email address: [email protected], his phone numbers are: 413-489-0651 / 779-901-0266.

In addition, the envelope with the instructions and cashier check was from a Brian Williams with an address:

220 Eastside Ln, Montezuma, IA. Also, the cashier check made to me was from Canvas Credit Union, Englewood, CO with a remitted name Michael Schmidt.

P.S. I have not cashed the cashier check.
