Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

My Father received a check for $8997.13 from this company, instructing him to cash it within 5 days and he would then receive a certified check from Publishers Clearing House for $600,00.00. They claimed to be his "sponsor". I caught my Dad, thank God, on the way to the bank with this check. He called the number on the letter, and a gentleman named Glen Smith told him to cash the check and keep quiet about it. My Father is 84 years old, and I am sick and tired of fielding phone calls on his home phone, that are scams geared toward elderly people.
