Received email requesting phone interview for "personal assistant" position. Had phone interview next day and was told that I would receive email the following Tuesday letting me know if I got the job or not. Received text and email offering me job. I have been unemployed for the last 6 months and it sounded wonderful so I responded back accepting. Then had several telephone conversations with a Dave Gallo. He told me I would be receiving a laptop and a check in the amount of $4,800.00 to buy office supplies (both are supposedly in the mail).

I worked in a law firm for years and contacted some people that told me NOT TO DO ANYTHING it is a scam. Went to Harris County Sheriff’s Department on Cypresswood Drive in Houston and police officer told me information that I had not given him & told me it was definitely a scam. I would probably not be receiving a laptop and told me how the check thing works. Told me not to sign anything or respond further with this Dave Gallo. I think I caught this in time but was told to report it anyway.

Scammer uses name Dave Gallo and claims to be with the company Avitrax Network Systems in Canada. He emailed me initially. Later texted, then called. The call was to interview me for a possible position in Tampa. I did further research on the company and didn’t find it to be creditable. The final email was a job offer asking me for my personal mailing address in order to mail me a check to purchase office supplies for the new location he claimed to be establishing in my area.

I was emailed for employment asking for my number for a phone interview, the phone interview was short and Dave Gallo (HR Director) said it was against me and another candidate however, I would know by tomorrow if I would get it. The next day I was emailed that I got the job. The company is based out of Vancouver and they would be opening up a new office in Tampa, Florida in the next 3 weeks but would need me to go and purchase office supplies for him. He stated he would send me a check with my name on it and to deposit it into my bank account then I would have to purchase supplies for the office. After hearing this, I got suspicious and started investigating. There is no report of his business on the BBB website, nor any website for that matter and the domain name was just created on 11/23/16 under Ken Hovey. When I called and asked for his business license he said I was not in a position to ask for this and he refused to give it to me. He got extremely defensive and asked why I would want that and then "fired me".
