Found a boat on Craigslist and contacted "owner". They referred me to Auto Sedge Consignor, who they indicated was working to sell their boat for them. After some research, I found various reviews throughout the years. Yes, they have been doing this for years. They have an online chat, but will never call you and when you try to call them, they never answer and it goes to voicemail. Received an invoice (which looked legitimate). Checked out the hull # and that too matched up with the boat. Transferred funds and then they indicated they didn’t receive them yet. Couple days went by and I got suspicious. Put a tracer on my wire and subsequently put in a recall for funds. Still awaiting to hear back, but they used Chase bank.

After a lot of digging, I found an old thread in a blog where someone went through this same scenario 2 years ago. They appear to have buried any bad reviews with a ton of good ones. A search into the company shows news articles about them as well as ones by one of the original co-owners. Very elaborate! Even got a couple emails from the "owner" asking what was going on after the transaction and then those stopped. Needless to say, DO NOT wire anything to this company. Go with your gut, I know I should have. I’m a diligent person and I let my excitement of the prospect of getting a boat cloud my better judgement, because of the detail they put into making this appear real.

Found a "too good to be true" deal on a boat on Craigslist. Emailed to inquire further, Dr james Russell emailed back with a link to the auto sedge consignor website that had more pics. Wanted to take a look at it before buying, said it was in a far away state but there was a 7 day money back guarantee. Had to register on their site and enter into contract before even calling. Tried calling numerous times before finally getting someone with a foreign accent and we asked for the warehouse address so a family member nearby could stop by. They wouldnt give it to us. Dr Russell did in an email but it was a fake address. Would only accept bank wires. We were minutes away from doing it too so lucky we didn’t. We emailed Dr Russell back to say we are backing out. Never gave them any bank info or anything but now he is sending threatening emails that we are under contract and its already being shipped and so forth.

Boat was listed for sale on Craigslist at a great price. You could only contact the seller by email through Craigslist. They did not respond immediately to requests. When they did below is the email response but I could not get through to speak with someone until I registered. I then found on BBB someone experiencing the same thing using the same name.

Here is his email response and name

Hi,

First of all, I apologize for the late answer but I had a family emergency and just came back in town. Hope I’m not too late and you are still interested.

All options are in working order. There are no structural or electrical problems. The interior is in nice condition. No mechanical issues at all. She starts easily and restart easily all the day. There aren’t any service indicators or warning lights on. All service records and owner manuals are available. Clean and clear title, no liens (ready for a quick sale). Please check the link below to see the pictures, selling price, specifications and some more specific information: https://www.autosedge.com/inventory/

The boat can be seen at the local ASC warehouse. I suppose you know ASC, it’s Auto Sedge Consignor, the consignment service for vehicles and large items mostly.

I left the boat in their lot because we got a great deal on a different one and as keeping them both is not an option (also have to pay the other soon), have signed a consignment agreement with these guys for its sale.

To personally inspect or pick it up, simply contact ASC and request an appointment. Just provide them my name as seller and they will shortly provide further information.

In case you are not living in the area and want to have it shipped, due to the voucher that I have received for my membership (my past transactions), shipping up to 1000 miles is free of charge for you as a buyer (over, extra fees will apply, $1.15 per mile).

If you opt for this option, you have to go on their website and Register the purchase. The process is very easy and simple, just fill out the requested information on the page and, within maximum 24 hours, an invoice regarding the purchase will be issued to you. The invoice should contain detailed information about the transaction, like insurance, shipping process, bill of sale, payment instructions, etc., basically all you need to know about your purchase. That’s the essentially online buying process, but I should also mention their Pre Delivery Inspection you get at delivery and their 7 Day Money Back Guarantee that follows, which costs nothing and should give you the chance and time to decide on the boat. The pre-delivery inspection will have an ASC representative on site who should answer your questions, show that everything works and sign the necessary delivery papers. My boat was even pre-inspected before being listed for sale and passed their inspection flawlessly.

That’s all for now, but if you have any other questions, I’ll be more then happy to assist. To end with, the entire purchase process is described step by step, on their HOW IT WORKS page. I am sure they do a better job explaining things than I do.

Thank you in advance!

Respectfully,

James

We found a tractor online through Craigslist. The tractor is being held at a consignment lot in Redding, CA under Auto Sedge Consignors. We were sent an invoice for the purchase, no tax added, no delivery fee to WA. It started to seem odd. I called the number given and the recording said they are having a high volume of calls and then disconnected. I called another number and the man who answered had a Russian accent, I asked about the tractor and he said all that information has been sent to the shipping office and he was unable to answer any questions.

The (supposed) owner is a Dr. James Russell. Email: [email protected]
