Total money lost $149.99

Type of a scam Tech Support

A warning page appeared when clicking on a link during an internet search for a travel company warning that I was trying to access an illegal porn site and to call the phone number provided immediately and if I failed to do so or tried to close the page my computer would be locked down and I would be reported to the FBI. Foolishly I did call the number where they showed a legitimate looking website and offered to fix the malware/trojan supposedly on my computer. They charged my credit card $149.99 (initially they wanted to debit my checking account) and supposedly cleaned up my machine. After the supposed clean up all my bookmarks were gone but I was able to retrieve them with my back up drive. The next day I tried to install my newly purchased Microsoft Office and while I was careful to follow the instructions when I entered the product key I again received an error message and a number to call. Thinking that I was calling Microsoft support I called the number where I was told the software could not be installed due to malware on my computer which they offered to remove for a fee. The supposed trojan they showed me was the same as the one they used he preceding day so I told them I was not falling for that scam again. They immediately disconnected the call and connection to my computer. I then called Apple Care which I wish I had done the first time and they could not find any malware or suspicious/unauthorized access. I have cancelled my credit card and am disputing the charges. I also have been resetting all passwords and am reporting this incident to the FBI and FCC.
