Type of a scam Family/Friend Emergency

My mother received three calls saying her grandson was beat and in jail and that I needed to wire money from the Western Union on 10th and S.Milwaukee or they would take a credit card over the phone. I was to send $900 to be released. He asked if she had a car or if a neighbor could take her. When she said no, he said he would send a cab. She asked to speak to my grandson and they said he went back to jail. I said that I needed to talk to my son & hung up.
