Total money lost $469

Type of a scam Tech Support

In September of 2017, I purchased an HP Printer. The printer began printing pages from "The Hacker God" stating that my PC had been hacked. I tried to locate HP Support on their Website and was apparently redirected to "Victor" at Arrow Systems, who claimed to be HP Support. I was informed that my PC had been hacked by multiple hackers and was told to allow "Victor" to remote in. He told me that he could resolve the issue and prevent further issues for $469.00. I was transferred to another number to give my bank info for an electronic payment. I was transferred back to "Victor" took about an hour and installed several antivirus programs, including Scanguard. Upon realizing that I had been duped, I deleted the programs. A month or so later I received calls asking to refund my payment but only by electric transfer. I did not respond. This morning I was informed that Scanguard had manually made three attempts to charge $99 to my Credit Card.

"Victor" is still calling for different companies using different names (including "Dick Clark") from masked phone numbers. One call was listed as coming from my Home Phone.

Type of a scam Phishing

Google search for Canon phone support found for my printer. I believe I called 650 230-0000. Called "Canon" tech who wanted remote entry to my computer. Person who answered immediately told me my computer was hacked by several countries and infected. Showed me this on my screen. He then told me that there were only 2 companies who work on hacked repair. One in N.Y.. The other India. He was then going to transfer me to the one in N.Y. I asked for there phone number, should we get disconnected. He explained it wasn’t necessary, then Connected to Arrow Systems Tech Services and tech used scare tactics to explain how serious this was. I explained I already have been working wiith a company named, The Phone Support Dock, to which he explained that they were scammers. I asked how he knew this as my google searches never found any complaints, etc about them. I also explained I’ve worked with them for over a year with excellent results. He explained that his co. had a special portal where he could see scam companies, but the public couldn’t access it. Mean while I was doing a google search on his company and found one listing. When I clicked it, it came back "Internal Server Error" He scared me into thinking I needed his "lifetime" services for all of my devices, for $429.99, but no payment was due over phone, as they didn’t accept credit cards over phone to protect their customers. He would do the repairs, have me sign "legal" papers so he could report his findings to the government and I was to send a check the next day. He had me electronically sign the "Agreement". He explained his co. had 350 employees. I called back later in the day and the same person answered. I asked how I reached him if there were 350 employees, to which he replied that I would always only be working with him, I did NOT send any money. Today I went to Canon’s official web site and asked them if their techs would ever diagnose problems and then transfer to "the" company who would fix them, The Canon Rep explained they would never "transfer", if needed offer contact phone numbers. Today I did another google search for Arrow Systems Tech Services, LLC and the information that was there yesterday is gone today. I will email him letting him know I’m filing this report.
