Type of a scam Rental

My sister and I responded to an advertisement to a rental on 4710 Cypress Ave in Wichita Falls, TX listed by a woman named Arons Rona. She responded with details of the house and pictures, which we later found out that she ripped from the realtor. The woman soon told me that she was in New York and could not come in town to personally show us the property but assured us through multiple emails that she would mail the keys in we mailed a cashier’s check to her lawyer named Becky Irwin. After corresponding with the lawyer for some time, my sister thought it was safe enough to mail the check to her in LO due to the landlord saying that she was having Ms. Irwin handle the legal aspects. Before we sent the money, we send in our application which had all of our personal information such as address, work places, SSN, bank account information, etc. After the post office and my sister’s bank both confirmed that the check was in their hands and that the money was in their account, the two women stopped contact for a few days saying that the money would not clear their account. After contacting them over and over, Arons began to make more excuses blaming her husband for not driving her to drop off the keys to us, and finally asked us to send her two more months’ rent to satisfy her husband or they would rent it out to a printing press company. After receiving this, I demanded our deposit back which she said she would return but has yet to do so.

After receiving the email about wanting us to give her a total of three months’ rent, I contacted the realtor that Arons said she was suing for not representing her property properly, whose name is Kathy Adams at Remax. As it turns out, Kathy knew about Arons and the details of her scam but never reported her and still has not.
