Type of a scam Tech Support
A pop-up up box appeared on my home screen, stating I had severe viruses, malware, etc. It looked legitimate/ very convincing. I called the number that was posted (801-432-6563) and a man with a heavy Indian accent answered.
He was very pushy and became irritated with me as I asked clarifying questions. He wanted $499 for "Lifetime Apple Care Protection" or "$349 for a 3- year Apple Care Protection".
Apple doesn’t offer a lifetime protection plan, so I knew immediately it was a scam.
I called Apple Care Support (1-800-275-2273) and the advisor verified it was a scam! The advisor walked me through the process in destroying the spyware and malware in my Mac.
