Type of a scam Identity Theft

This company just called my daughter and when she called them back they said they were affiliated with federal student loans. Unfortunately she trusted them and gave them her SS#, I believe they are ID thefts, they hung up on me. I called a couple of times and the first time the lady that answered told me they were "American Debt Consolidation" the man that answered later refused to give me a name he said they are there to "help you" and right away asked for my SS# in which I hung up on him.

I’m afraid she may now be a victim of ID theft so I asked her to notify her bank, SS, credit cards, change her FSA id, etc.
