Voicemail received Saturday September 15, 2018 stating someone from Dayton, Ohio tried to buy a TV for $1100.00 using my Amazon account. They requested "if you did not do this please contact Amazon security at 408-627-8667". I checked my Amazon account and also my credit accounts – no changes or attempts at withdrawal from anyone. When I called the number provided it immediately went into a hold queue… there was no initial identifier as to whom I was calling. When my call was answered they did not identify themselves. They sounded foreign (I believe from India or the Middle East). After explaining the reason for my call they had me change the password on my Amazon account (they did not ask for info on my old or new pwd). Then they asked me to run the following exe. "www.helpme.net" so they could add additional security. My computer security system asked me if I wanted to "trust" this user at which point I said no because it appeared to indicate to me that someone else was going to remotely access my computer if I said "Yes". I did not allow this and I hung up with the operator on the phone call. I then called the contact number listed for Amazon on their website to see if they had actually tried to contact me and to check on my account. They said they had not and they would open an investigation into the phone number I was told to call.
