Type of a scam Tech Support

A loud, scary and audio computer pop-up warned me my computer had been hacked, and advised me not to turn off my computer and directed me to call 800 number for Microsoft Support. I called and was convinced I need to purchase a firewall protection for $299, which I paid for with a credit card. They told me to not touch my computer while they were “cleaning it” and removing the spyware. I walked away and then thought something didn’t seem right. After contacting Microsoft directly I was advised it was absolutely NOT them, but was in fact the work of scammers.
