Type of a scam Phishing

This company contacted me via phone demanding my personal information including my birth date, address, etc. When I demanded to know what they were contacting me about, they refused to discuss the information stating that they had to verify my identity and my mailing address before they would discuss the reason they were calling. When I refused to give this information until they told me why they were calling, then the person calling gave me a birth date which did not match mine so I told the person that. Later in the call, the person said it was her birth date and she was just showing me why it was not a problem to share this information because a scammer could not use this information in any way. I told her I had been a victim of identity theft in the past so I was not sharing anything until I knew who they were. I also asked to talk to a supervisor who also refused to tell me why they were calling until I provided my personal information. I strongly encourage anyone receiving a call from this company to use caution because they do not seem like they are legitimate. I’ve never had any company reach out to me using my private home number and then, refuse to explain why they were calling me. I think this company is a scam.
