Type of a scam Fake Check/Money Order

I was selling a dining room set on Kijiji and was contacted by a man wanting to purchase it. We made arrangements for pickup and he indicated that he wanted to pay by echeck. I had never heard of an echeck so looked it up online. It said it was a valid method of payment so deposited the check. I went to my bank to confirm which is where I was told it was not legitimate.
