Type of a scam Phishing

Male phoned my residence asking for my mother (55+) by name, said he has an urgent financial matter and quickly asks for adress and d.o.b to confirm her identity, they’ve also called on my best friends cellular phone same number and name displaying but she didnt answer. I informed him to post mail if he knows the adress or I’ll report him to police and hung up. He didnt call back.
